November: A month of Gratitude

In honor of Thanksgiving, the UNAC Kidz program will be focusing on gratitude for the month of November.

To start it off right, our most heartfelt thanks to all of the volunteers and helpers who made this year's trunk or treat a truly frightful delight!  It is estimated we had about 250 people attend and 30 cars decorated to pass out treats. This is quickly becoming a Unity North tradition and we could not have done it without the help of each and every person who volunteered.  Thank you.  We are grateful for you.

In each of our classes, we will be focusing on how to keep our kids mindful of their many blessings and to give thanks each day for all the ways their lives are special and wonderful.  Parents please ask your children what they talked about in class or ask them to share their project with you.  We are grateful for the time we have to spend with your children and we hope they are enjoying themselves while learning about Spirit and the five Unity principles.

What happened last Sunday?

Just a little feedback about what is going on in each classroom so you can continue the conversations with your children.  Each of them is a unique expression of God's love and we are grateful for the time we spend with them each week.

Unikidz (ages 3 1/2 - 5 years):  This week we continued to explore the question: Who is God?  Children at this age are so full of hope and wonder and they come up with some amazing comments.  Parents take a moment to ask your children who God is... we guarantee their answers will be priceless.

Kidz 1 (1st and 2nd graders): This week was based on seeing the presence of God in yourself and in others.  A calendar was handed out so that each child could put a sticker on the days when they remembered to recognize God in themselves and in others.  Please ask your children if they remembered to look for the presence of God in others and themselves and help them mark it on their special calendar for the month. (Class based on lesson 6 in our new curriculum.)

Kidz 2 (2nd and 3rd graders): This week we discussed that God is in everything and is sacred in all living things. We took time to go outside and have our discussion where we could see all of the living things around us where God is present.  We discussed what divinity is and cam up with various answers.  Parents, take a few moments this week to ask your kids what divinity means to them.
(Class based on lesson 6 in our new curriculum.)

Kidz 3 (4th and 5th graders): This week we began with the beginning: Who is God?  We asked the question and we had as many different answers as we did children.  Parents, ask your children who God is and ask them to tell you about the Elephant folktale that we read.  We also took time to go outside and find one item that represented God and bring it back into our classroom to create an altar.  Ask your children to share with you what they chose and why.  They are so creative and inspiring - you'll definitely want to hear their answers!
(Class based on lesson 1 in our new curriculum.)

Thank you Unity Parents and Jordan Pilzer!

Many thanks to the families that participated in our first Parent's Night Out!  We had 26 children participate and the Kidz Church coordinators and the Y.O.U. volunteers stayed busy.  Children enjoyed a spaghetti dinner, playtime with friends and popcorn and a movie.  This event was a success and we are planning to have another PNO in January.

The Sunday morning after our Parent's Night Out event, we were blessed to have Jordan Pilzer join our classes and tell uplifting, funny and poignant stories to our kids.  The children were mesmerized by his lessons through his animated, interactive and heartwarming tales that illustrated the importance of being unique, how we can do anything when we work together and how vital it is for us to love one another.  A huge thanks to Jordan - we can not wait for you to return!

What a great weekend for Parent's Night Out!

This Saturday night OCTOBER 9th, we are having a fundraiser for the children's ministry - Parent's Night Out!  That is right, drop your kids off with the UNAC kidz teachers and volunteers and while your kids are being fed and entertained, you get to have a night out!  Drop offs begin at 6:30 pm and pick-up is 10:30 p.m.  You may sign your children in and out in the Holy Grounds Cafe.  We will serve a spaghetti dinner, play games, have a craft and watch How to Train Your Dragon.  Please be sure to let us know if your children have any food allergies.

This Sunday we will have a special Sunday school class combining all the classes for uplifting storytelling by Jordan Pilzer.  Jordan Pilzer is an inspirational entertainer for kids whose mission is "to lift the spirits of children and inspire them to become the greatest expression of themselves through interactive and entertianing motivational stories and games." Please sign in and pick up your children in their regular classrooms.

Don't forget that TRUNK OR TREAT is right around the corner.  Sign up to decorate your car and hand out candy on the bulletin board next to the UniKidz classroom.  Don't want to decorate your car but want to volunteer?  Sign up as an event volunteer on the same bulletin board to take part in a night to remember.  Trunk or Treat is 10/29 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Can't wait to see everyone there!
Happy week and many blessings to you all!

Welcome One and All!

We are here!  The children's ministry at Unity North Atlanta Church is excited to have this new avenue of communication with our families and friends.  We will use this blog to let you know what lessons we will be teaching in each class, what events are coming up and what volunteer opportunities we have available in the Kidz ministry.  We will also keep a running wish list of items that we would love to have donated for each classroom.  Thanks to all the guides, families, volunteers, and friends who make it a joy to work with this a ministry.   Don't forget....this Sunday October 3rd is the first performance for our Kidz Choir.  Hooray!  Have a great week.  Abundant blessings to you all!
